'Confident in Christ' is the theme for a Special Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland (PCI), affording an opportunity for representatives of PCI's congregations, presbyteries, boards and the Church House establishment to get together for several days for fellowship, encouragement, envisioning and inspiration.
The hope is that, in an atmosphere of praise and fellowship, and through keynote addresses and a programme of seminars addressing 'topical issues', this special gathering of Presbyterians will:
Morning Worship: While wanting to remain confident in Christ and the power of the gospel to transform lives and communities, the unparalleled rate of change in society in recent decades often leaves us bewildered. In the morning programme, three local leaders will survey the realities of the global challenge, social change and marginalisation of the Church, and help delegates take fresh confidence in the unchanging Lordship of Christ.
Evening Celebrations: Each evening will provide delegates with the opportunity to come together to celebrate their confidence in Christ through inspiring worship and the encouragement of the ministry of God’s Word. Coming from outside Irish Presbyterian culture, guest speaker Ajith Fernando will help delegates look again at themselves as a church, Western culture and the call to be God’s people at this time in the island of Ireland.
Seminars: It is easy to attend a conference and be inspired about nothing in particular! Individuals’ confidence in Christ needs to impact the way each acts and reacts to the everyday challenges of life and mission. The seminar programme will offer a variety of ways to earth the teaching of the morning programme in terms of personal response to particular issues facing us as individuals and as a church.
Late Night Extra: For the young, the young at heart or other insomniacs - the late night sessions will offer delegates the opportunity in an informal setting to enjoy some craic, music and fellowship, as well as reflecting on what God has been saying through the themes of each day.
