Deputation

The term Deputation is, for some, a somewhat outdated word, maybe even a misnomer.

Put simply, it is the term we use where someone, 'deputising for' a person or organisation (in our case Presbyterian Mission Overseas), agrees to speak on their behalf.

Purpose

Within Presbyterian Mission Overseas, the purpose of Deputation is to provide opportunities for members of our Church to hear about the work we are involved in around the world:

  • To understand something more of the context in which our people are working, and the partners they are working with.
  • To see how God is building His Kingdom in today's world.
  • To be made more aware of the needs, challenges and opportunities overseas, so that prayer and other support can be more effective.

Those who undertake Deputation speaking engagements are normally our mission personnel who are back in Ireland for a period of home assignment, part of which includes deputation.

On occasions, members of our Executive Staff Team, members of the Board, or others with overseas mission experience may also be available to speak.
