Presbyterian IGNITE Overseas Mission Teams

Each year, under the 'TEAMS Track' of our IGNITE Overseas Mission Opportunities Programme, and working in close cooperation with the Board of Youth & Children's Ministry (YAC), we facilitate the sending of a number of centrally-organised, Presbyterian IGNITE Short Term Overseas Mission Teams to various 'overseas' locations outside of the island of Ireland.

Broadly, these teams fall into two categories, those for:

(a) 'Young Adults' aged 18-25 (on occasions, upper age limit may be extended to 30).
Organised and administered by staff in the Youth & Children's Office

(b) 'All-Ages' from 18 years old and above.
Organised and administered by staff in the Mission Overseas Office

Team visits overseas normally last for two to three weeks and generally, though not always, occur in the summer months.

Most teams typically engage in outreach and Bible teaching among children and young people; help lead English language camps; or do practical work of one sort or another.

However, some go not to 'do' but primarily to 'see'; to observe and learn from the life and witness of a partner church, to make closer links with its members, and to bring back the lessons they have learnt, seeking to apply them to engaging in mission in Ireland today.

In the main, the teams we organise are designed to complement rather than duplicate what congregations are doing.

One attraction of a centrally-organised team is the opportunity it provides for members of smaller congregations within our church to engage in short-term mission overseas, which they might otherwise not be able to do.

Publicity materials for 'next year’s teams' are normally available in October each year with an application closing date in January, and interviews for team places held shortly thereafter.

Successful applicants aged 18-25 are normally eligible to apply to PCI's Concorde Travel Fund for assistance with travel costs. Applications for Travel Grants under this scheme MUST be submitted to the Youth & Children's Office by NO LATER THAN 1st March of the year in question.

It is our hope and prayer that individuals' interest in mission will be IGNITED through what they see, learn and experience by serving on one of these teams.

And, as a result, that they will develop a deep passion for, and strong commitment to, active on-going engagement in God's mission to the world, .... whether it be here 'at home' or somewhere further afield, outside the island of Ireland.
