Christians across Nepal are uniting in 40 days of prayer for a country in turmoil - and they want you to join them.
The next two months are critical for the Himalayan republic as it continues slowly down the road to transition from being a monarchy to a democratic republic. It's proving a bumpy old track.
The 28th May is the deadline for the completion of a new Constitution for this predominantly Hindu country of 28 million people. A lot rests on this. The Constitution's attitude to minority rights, for example those of Christians, will have a bearing on unity in the country.
Bhab Ghale, one of the organisers of the 40 days of prayer, says:
"With ongoing political turmoil in the country, the future of Nepal as a peaceful, democratic, just and inclusive country looks more uncertain than ever."
As a response to this, the local church in Nepal, supported by mission agencies and Christian organisations has come together to call for a 40-day period of prayer and fasting for the country - within Nepal and also globally."
At this time of 'fear and anxiety' Bhab urges people to support Nepalese Christians with prayers and to mobilise others to do the same.
"Let's believe and hope that through our united prayer, intercession and fasting God will intervene in the critical and volatile situation of Nepal and would heal this Himalayan nation. May this highest land of the world give the highest glory to highest God," adds Bhab.
The 40 days of prayer initiative is due to finishes on 23rd May.
