INDONESIA: Agustinus Aesh makes good recovery from serious illness

6th August 2010

In April, we reported that Rev Agustinus N Aesh, a former Moderator of our partner church, Gereja Masehi Injili di Halmahera (GMIH), the Evangelical Christian Church in Halmahera, was seriously ill in hospital in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.

Over the past four months, Agustinus has received extensive treatment for throat cancer in a church hospital in Jakarta.

The treatment has now ended and appears to have been successful, which is such a blessing and an answer to much prayer.

Given the nature and seriousness of his illness, his medical expenses have amounted to almost £30,000 which is way beyond the means of his family to meet by themselves.

Agustinus has expressed heartfelt thanks to various friends and a number of GMIH's mission partners (including Presbyterian Mission Overseas, plus individual members of PCI), who have been able to make contributions to cover part of the treatment costs.

Understandably Agustinus and his family are concerned as to how they will find the money needed to pay off the remainder of what is owed for his treatment, which amounts to around £10,000.

Any individual or congregation that would like to help, may channel their gift through the Mission Overseas Office.

Cheques should be made payable to The Presbyterian Church in Ireland and accompanied by a letter or note explaining that the money is for ‘Aesh Medical Expenses’ and making clear who it is from.

We encourage continued prayer for Agustinus and his family, giving thanks for the success of his treatment, seeking a speedy and full recovery, and asking that the funds needed to settle the outstanding hospital bills will soon be found.
