Johnny and Lyn Dowds, who, with their two daughters, will shortly be leaving for service in Malawi, are being commissioned this Sunday, 19 June 2011.
Dr Lyn Dowds will be joining the medical team at David Gordon Memorial Hospital (DGMH) in Livingstonia.
This is at the invitation of the Livingstonia Synod of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP), our partner church in Malawi.
Lyn’s work will include undertaking surgery, staff training and administration.
While Lyn is at work, Johnny will be home-schooling their two young daughters.
Anticipating their move to Malawi in the near future, Lyn says:
"We are starting to get excited as we prepare for Malawi. It has been a long time from when we left South Africa to pursue the call to Livingstonia. The time we have now is precious as the family become more aware that we will be on the move again.
It is just over a year since we felt God calling us away from rural South Africa and to follow Him into much more rural Malawi. We have both had a strong calling to work in Southern Africa for many years and we are looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead of us. I will have to spend time adjusting to having less support in the hospital than I've been used to in other situations, and with much fewer facilities and supplies.
Johnny is looking forward to starting to home-school our two girls. They will all need to adapt to this way of schooling but I'm sure all of them will.
We will also need to adjust to church in Livingstonia and look forward to engaging in bible study with the local theology lecturers."
The Dowds are being commissioned this coming Sunday, 19th June 2011 by the Presbytery of Armagh for mission service in Malawi.
The service is being held in their 'home congregation', Craigavon Presbyterian Church, and will commence at 7.00 pm followed by a Reception afterwards.
