EVENTS: Presbyterians Celebrate God's Master Plan For Global Mission

12th October 2011

The Presbyterian Board of Mission Overseas will once again host their popular 'Celebration of Global Mission' evenings to highlight and promote the work of the Church's many mission programmes abroad.

Based around the theme 'God's Master Plan', the evenings will feature a range of speakers and provide an interesting, informative and challenging focus on PCI's wide spectrum of involvement in God's mission to the world.

Secretary to the Board of Mission Overseas Rev Uel Marrs said, "The Celebration of Global Mission evenings have become a highlight in our calendar each autumn. It is a great opportunity for Presbyterians to come and hear of the many projects and programmes we as a Church are involved in overseas."

"Mission personnel on home assignment will take part and share something of what God is doing where they are working; and of the challenges and needs facing those they are working with, as well as the communities and people they are seeking to serve."

The first event will be held on Thursday 20th October in Ballygawley Presbyterian Church in County Omagh. Participating that evening will be Robin and Helen Quinn and Victoria Chihana speaking on Malawi where Robin is the Vice Principal of Livingstonia Theological College and Helen and Victoria run the Livingstonia Synod's Women's Empowerment Programme.

A visitor from Pakistan will share something of the challenges faced by the Christian community there at this time whilst David Middleton, the SAT-7 Coordinator for Ireland, will give an overview of their work broadcasting Christian television programmes into the Middle East and North Africa. Members from the Presbyterian Overseas team to Italy last month will also report back on their time at the Festivaletteratura Literary Festival in Mantova.

The second evening will be held in the Assembly Buildings in Belfast on Tuesday 25th October. The Moderator Dr Ivan Patterson will give a talk on his recent overseas trip to Lebanon and Latvia. Helen Quinn, Victoria Chihana, David Middleton and members of the Italian team will return to speak and they will be joined by Stephen Cowan who will give an update on his work in Tuum in the Samburu District of Northern Kenya.

Both evenings will start at 7.30pm and they are expected to end around 9.30pm, tickets are not required for either event. For further information on the Board of Mission Overseas visit their website www.pcimissionoverseas.org
