YAC's 2009/10 Youth and Children's Project - 'Missing Peace' - is raising funds to help support community development work which is aimed at bringing about reconciliation and peace-building, in both Nepal and Ireland.
In recent years, Nepal has experienced an internal conflict which has resulted in both political and religious violence. Sadly, here in Ireland, we understand all too well the difficulties that community division and conflict bring.
By investing in local communities, YAC's 'Missing Peace' project aims to help bring about transformation in these communities, thereby ensuring that children and young people have the opportunity to grow up in stable, peaceful societies.
Specifically, the money raised by this year's 'Missing Peace' project will be used to support two projects:
The 'Missing Peace' project will provide valuable resources that will help build capacity in local communities, with the aim of encouraging the work of reconciliation and the investment in essential peace-building work, in both Nepal and Ireland.
It is a challenging project but one, it is hoped, that children and young people in every congregation will be encouraged to support; and that in doing so, they will enjoy learning more about Nepal.
