John Calvin Faculty or Faculté Jean Calvin (FJC), Institut de Théologie Protestante et Evangélique, founded in 1974 and formerly known as the Free Faculty of Reformed Theology (Faculté Libre de Théologie Réformée - FLTR), has a particular calling: to promote Reformed Theology in the French-speaking world.
The theology as taught in FJC reflects that of the early Church, the Churches born out of the Reformation of the 16th century and the Evangelical movement.
Students who choose FJC in Aix for their training come from a variety of Christian denominations.
The Seminary is located in the heart of the University campus in Aix-en-Provence, Southern France. The city and the region provide stimulating intellectual and cultural environments as well as ample opportunities for sports and tourism.
FJC primarily trains men and women for ministry in various Reformed or Protestant denominations in France and the French-speaking world. The courses provided at FJC take into account today's needs in ministry and include a growing distance-learning programme to Masters level, as well as as increased involvement with training programmes for those involved in ministry in countries in French-speaking Africa.
Included in FJC's regular programme of activities are:
We continue to support the strategic work of FJC through the provision of an annnual grant, which helps FJC meet its running costs.
In addition, Rev Dr Gordon Campbell, Convener of BMO's Leadership Development Committee (LDC) and Professor of New Testament Studies at Union Theological College UTC), who formerly taught at FJC (FLTR), makes periodic short visits to Aix to help FJC deliver its courses.
