The Bible Society in Northern Ireland (BSNI) was founded in 1807. Today, it joins with other Bible Societies as the United Bible Societies to achieve the most effective translation, publication, and distribution of the Bible in all the languages spoken today.
The main objective of BSNI is to encourage churches and their members to support the United Bible Societies' extensive international programme of Bible translation and distribution. The need, identified more than 150 years ago, to place the Scriptures in the hands of the poor in countries around the world, remains a priority today.
Grants by BSNI help support the programmes of Bible Societies in other countries who are unable to generate sufficient funds locally. Translations are completed, Bibles are distributed and lives are changed because people here get prayerfully involved in taking the Word to the world.
At home, the Society also has a Children’s ministry, communicating God’s love through providing print and on-line publications for children and teenagers.

The work of the Bible Societies in making the Scriptures available in a multitude of languages, and in distributing them all over the world, is strategic in aiding the spread of the Good News of Jesus Christ, as well as giving countless thousands the opportunity to own and read a Bible written in their mother tongue.
Together with agencies involved in Bible Translation and in Christian Broadcasting, the Bible Societies play a vital role in supporting the life and witness of the worldwide Church. These Special Service Agencies, or SSA's, are doing what no one church or denomination can easily do, playing a vital role in the building of God's Kingdom around the world.
Recognising the importance of the Bible Societies, Bible translators and other SSA's, in Presbyterian Mission Overseas we are beginning to explore ways in which we can forge closer links with both the Bible Society in Northern Ireland (BSNI) and the National Bible Society of Ireland (NBSI), based in Dublin; as well as with Wycliffe Bible Translators through their Belfast office.
To this end, we commend the work of these two Bible Societies and Wycliffe, and would encourage our congregations to support them in any way they can.
