Gary and Mary Reid and family live in Olkinyiei in the Narok District of Southwest Kenya, in the spiritual heartland of the Maasai tribe, where they are working with the Limuru Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA).

The church-planting project they are engaged with is known as PCEA Acacia Grove Mission.

Assisted by Patrick Ole Kipetu, they are engaged in church planting and development work; distribute Scripture to schools, homes, and communities; distribute food to malnourished children with some being brought to the Mission to be fed for a more prolonged period, while also transporting seriously ill or injured people to Narok hospital, Tenwek hospital or even Kijabe hospital which is around 200 kilometres from Olkinyiei.

Despite many difficulties (physical, cultural and spiritual), there’s much to be encouraged about and give thanks for as God by His Holy Spirit continues to build His Kingdom among the Maasai in the area.

Four churches have been started. At Insintin, 60 to 70 young men and women meet in the nursery school and at Oltepsi (the ‘Tree’ church) around 20 meet.

Due to demarcation, families have been moving out into the plains to their allocated places of land, and as a result a new church has been established, where families meet together in the open plains and worship God and learn about Him.

At Olkarkar, over 100 come together and at another 'tree church', in Siana, a neighbouring group ranch which is 85km from the mission station, the churchis very well attended by all age groups, including men and women.

In addition to Sunday worship, every Saturday between 40 and 50 (mainly young adults) attend Bible Study at the mission station in Olkinyiei.

On Friday mornings, there is an evangelist class where Gary teaches the young men who assist in evangelism and this is also a time for feedback on what has been happening with the young men as they go around the area evangelising. Through this evangelism God’s Holy Spirit has worked in the lives of men and women who have given their lives to our Lord, knowing, as the evangelists have repeatedly taught, that to be a child of God’s is not to be taken lightly and salvation means change. The evangelists also have opportunity to meet those who are in real need and, when required, the Mission has been able to help.

General Prayer Points

  • The Reids - that each day they will be guided and empowered by God’s Holy Spirit, bringing glory to His Name in all they say and do.

  • God to work in the hearts of the Maasai, that many will believe in our Lord and be changed.

  • Spiritual growth in the churches already established in the Narok region.

  • The Reid children to grow in the knowledge of our Lord and have His joy in their hearts.

  • That there would be unity amongst the true believers (from all the different Protestant denominations which are now in the outlying area) and that the believers will take their faith seriously and bring glory to Christ’s beautiful Name.

Our weekly Overseas Prayerline bulletin contains up-to-date information and prayer requests from our mission personnel and partners overseas.
