Maurice and Helen Kennedy are volunteers-in-mission who, under the Blantyre Synod Development Commission (BSDC), are helping to coordinate the Madziabango Project which is largely funded by Irish Aid.

The project, which involves renovation and refurbishment of some of the neediest schools in the Synod, is a livelihood programme centering on a holistic approach to children and their environment. It is providing education, primary health care and food stability for a community of some 6,500 persons.

The Kennedys make frequent visits to Malawi, for a month or two at a time. On returning home they are able to continue supervising the project and monitor progress, via email and telephone communications with those who are directly involved on the ground.

Maurice has been a member of the Containers for Malawi Group for a number of years and currently Chairs the organising committee. He's also an active member of the Missions Committee of their home congregation, Hamilton Road Presbyterian Church.

Maurice and Helen's son, Neil, and his family, are also serving in Malawi, in Blantyre.

Maurice and Helen are currently 'back home' but hope to return to Malawi in May 2010 for around a three-month period.

General Prayer Points

  • That the Madziabango Project will continue to provide real benefits to the community (and particularly the children) it seeks to serve.

  • Wisdom for Maurice and Helen as they coordinate the project.

  • For good health at all times; for safety for Maurice and Helen as they regularly travel to and from Malawi, and also when travelling within Malawi.
