Day 2 – BRAZIL

Naomi Keefe has at last been granted the permanent visa she has been trying to obtain over the past number of months.

  • Give thanks for this answer to prayer!  Remember Naomi as she prepares to come on home assignment.  All being well, she hopes to arrive in Ireland in early October.

Days 12 to 14 – KENYA

Stephen Cowan shares the following points for prayer:

  • Give thanks that Caragh Cowan is very content at her new boarding school.  Pray that she will continue to enjoy it and make good friends.

  • Give thanks that the contents of the container have arrived safely in Tuum, including the school books which are greatly appreciated by the new head teacher at Tuum Girls’ Secondary School (TGSS).

  • Pray for the meeting of the TGSS board next week, in particular as they deal with financial matters.

  • Pray for the monthly adult teaching time in Tuum which is due to take place next week.

Day 24 – NEPAL

The week of prayer called for by the United Mission to Nepal (UMN) continues until this coming weekend.  UMN staff members are meeting twice each day to pray for the country of Nepal, its people and the work of UMN.  The key areas and topics they are focusing on are:-

  • For Nepal as a country, for peace, justice and an end to poverty.

  • For God’s guidance as UMN develops their new strategy for its work into the future.

  • For Tansen and Okaldhunga Hospitals, particularly in the face of the recent threats to staff, but also for the transition process, including registration of the NGO and recruitment of board members.

  • For the on-going issue regarding the ownership of the Thapathali property – that justice would prevail and the property would be returned to UMN - its rightful owner.

  • For leaders and pastors of the Christian community in Nepal – particularly as they face the threat of violence from the ‘Nepal Defence Army’.

A leaflet, giving more detailed prayer topics for each day, is available for download from our recent news item: NEPAL -UMN calls for week of prayer.

Janet Campbell will facilitate a quiet day of prayer and Bible study for UMN and INF expatriate staff this coming Sunday 13th September.  The Nepali church meets on Saturdays.

Prayer Points –

  • For all the staff in UMN that God will bless the work and inspire the staff in their service.

  • That God will bless all who set aside this coming Sunday for quiet prayer and Bible study.

This Saturday afternoon (12th), Joe Campbell and a group of four Nepali politicians and three senior civil servants will arrive in Dublin for a week-long sharing and learning visit on peace work.  After the ten-year civil war in Nepal, a peace agreement was signed in November 2006.  However, building cross-party support for a coalition government has proved very difficult.  The group, which is being led by the Minister of Peace and Reconstruction, will have the opportunity to meet with political leaders and government officials, both in Belfast and Dublin.  Next Monday (14th) evening, the Board of Mission Overseas (BMO) is hosting a dinner for the Nepali delegation, whose members represent the three main political parties in Nepal.

Prayer Points –

  • That relationships between individual members of the group will be strengthened; and that there will be good learning and sharing during the week.

  • That the dinner hosted by BMO will be an opportunity to build good relationships between our Church and the government of Nepal, and will enable our Nepali guests to see how the Church can help in building peace.

Grenville Hopkinson continues to lead and guide the development of UMN's next five-year strategic plan due to go to the Nepal government for approval in early 2010 and begin to be implemented in July 2010.

Georgie Hopkinson is chairing the group who will appoint the new Pastor of the Kathmandu InternationalChristian Congregation (KICC) and over these days meetings are being held, applications reviewed and decisions are being made.

Prayer Points –

  • For Grenville, that God will guide him and inspire him in the leadership of the Strategic planning process.  Pray that God's plans for UMN will be clearly discerned.

  • For Georgie as she leads the committee in the choice of the Pastor for the KIC.  Pray that she will have wisdom and God's person will emerge from the process to hear His call.

Day 26 – MISSION INVOLVEMENT

A number of mission personnel are on home assignment and are will shortly begin a period of deputation.  These include: Heather Lennox (Jamaica), Mervyn & Raing McCullagh (Indonesia), Gary & Mary Reid (Kenya), Derek & Linda Roulston (Kenya), David & Maggie Steele (Malawi) and Darren & Nicola Aitcheson (Romania).

Prayer Points –

  • For God’s guidance for the missionaries as they complete preparation for deputation; for safety and strength as they travel to undertake a range of speaking engagements over the next few months.

  • For clear and effective communication; and that those who come to listen to them will not only be encouraged by what they hear but also challenged by God’s call to engage in His mission to the world.

  • For wisdom in balancing speaking commitments with day-to-day family commitments.  Remember the children as they settle into school and to being in Ireland.

If you would like book a mission speaker to take a service or meeting you should contact Beverley Moffett, in the Mission Overseas Office, as soon as possible.

Please note some of our mission personnel are already FULLY BOOKED for SUNDAY services. For more information, go to Who's Available, or contact us.
