Day 4 - SPAIN
Derek and Jane French have returned to Spain with their daughter Gabriela having completed the adoption process in China. Gabriela, whose first birthday was in September, is adapting well to all the changes.
- Give thanks for the completion of the adoption process and a safe return journey to Spain.
- Pray for Gabriela, for good health, safety, and that as she grows up she may come to know the Lord as her personal Saviour.
Day 8 – UKRAINE
Jenni Wolfe is now back in Nagybereg in Western Ukraine, gathering the additional paperwork she needs for her application for a new Ukrainian visa. The process hasn't been as straightforward as she had expected, as she had hoped to she would have obtained the visa when she was in Budapest last week.
Prayer Points -
- That Jenni will be able to obtain all the paperwork needed for her visa renewal; for the translation of the documents; and that her application will be approved and a new visa issued soon.
- That Jenni may know God's peace and strength at this testing time. Give thanks for the support she has had from her friends in Ukraine.
Days 12 to 14 – KENYA
In Galana, the official opening of the new church building took place yesterday, Tuesday 27th, while the footbridge across the Galana River is being officially opened today, Wednesday 28th. Derek Roulston and his daughters, Laura-Jayne and Amy are in Galana for these opening ceremonies and PCI is being officially represented by Rev Stephen Richmond, Convener of BMO's Outreach Ministries Committee.
This is an important time for the Galana Community Development Project (now officially known as PCEA Pwani Presbytery 'WHEAT' Project) and the local community with the Vice-President of Kenya and a number of other government officials in Galana for the opening ceremonies and associated celebrations, along with representatives from Gorta and Irish Aid, who have both provided substantial funding for the project. In addition, several members of congregations from Ireland that have helped fund the Bridge Project, are also there, along with a group of nine from Raphoe Royal & Prior Comprehensive School in Donegal, who are building on the links they've started to make with the school in Galana. It is a busy time for the community, particularly with organising accommodation, and providing transport and food for all the visitors.
Prayer Points -
- Give thanks for the new church building and for the many people in the Galana area who have come to faith in Jesus Christ.
- Give thanks too for the building of the footbridge across the crocodile-infested Galana River. People can now cross in safety without fear of drowning, or being attacked by crocodile or hippo.
- That God will be glorified in all that takes place in the celebrations.
- For safety for all who will be travelling in the area over the next few days.
Stephen and Angelina Cowan are back in Tuum, following a short holiday over the half-term holidays.
Points for prayer -
- Give thanks for good rainfall in the Tuum area recently.
- Insecurity and inter-tribal tensions in the area have heightened in recent days. Pray for restoration of peace and harmony between the Samburu and Turkana tribes, and for an end to the theft of animals that has been the cause of much of the friction.
- Give thanks for a good Bible teaching time last week and for the outreach which followed in Wuaso Rongai. There is a young fellowship there and many attend the monthly teaching times in Tuum. Pray that the Christians in Wuaso Rongai will grow in their love for God and in their understanding of all aspects of the Christian life.
- Tuum Girls' Secondary School (TGSS) is hosting a special weekend event bringing together groups from Baragoi Girls' and Baragoi Boys' Secondary Schools. This event will begin on Friday night and finish on Sunday afternoon with an open air meeting in Tuum village. Pray for all the speakers from the participating schools and also the PCEA team at Tuum. Pray too, for the anointing of the Holy Spirit on the messages shared from the Word of God; and for the desire amongst those students who proclaim faith in Jesus to persevere on their journey of faith, despite many temptations and difficulties. This week another girl has left TGSS due to pregnancy.
- Give thanks for good progress with the building of a dorm at the primary school that the PCEA's Samburu Action and Awareness Programme (SAAP) building team were asked to construct. This is encouraging as SAAP seeks to give people skills to move on rather than be dependent on the institution through offering of employment.
- There has been progress in the SAAP vehicle workshop (garage) in Tuum due to a change of attitude towards work and progressive thinking. This is timely in preparation for building of the new vehicle, part of which arrived in the container shipped earlier this year from Ireland. Pray for continued harmony amongst members of the team working in the garage and for opportunities to share the gospel with many who are unbelievers. Pray that they might realise that the gospel offers hope, as they see evidence of its impact in the lives of believers who have been changed.
- Give thanks that one of the young men who went to the YWAM Discipleship Course at Youth, and who was not a believer, has surrendered to Jesus as Saviour and Lord. Pray too for Moses, who is on the staff there, that he will grow in confidence and have an increased passion to live for Jesus. He has been an encouragement to the other staff at YWAM. Pray for those who may continue with leadership training down country in the months ahead.
Day 26 – MISSION INVOLVEMENT
This year's two autumn 'Celebrations of Global Mission' evenings, have taken place in the past week, in Ardstraw Presbyterian Church last Thursday (22nd) and in Church House, yesterday (27th).
- Give thanks for these two inspiring and challenging 'Celebration' evenings; for those who led in worship and those who shared 'their story'; for all who came to listen, to encourage and to be encouraged; and for God speaking through the prompting of His Spirit.
- Give thanks for a total of just over £4,100 raised through the offerings, which will go to Jivandwar Mission in Gujarat (India), which provides a home and caring support to children who have been abandoned or come from difficult home situations, and to adults suffering from leprosy.
Global Connections' Annual Conference is taking place next week in Swanwick (Derbyshire-England), beginning on Wednesday, 4th and running through to Friday 6th November. The theme for this year's conference is 'The WholeChurch Taking the Whole Gospel to the Whole World'.
The Conference programme will be linked to, and provide input into, the agenda for the Third Lausanne Congress being held in Cape Town (South Africa) in October 2010, making this a unique opportunity for church leaders, mission leaders and anyone passionate about seeing the world transformed for Christ to discuss key issues affecting mission.
Six members of the Board of Mission Overseas (BMO) are planning to attend the Global Connections Conference in Swanick: Deborah Ford, Helen Johnston, Uel Marrs, Joan Scott, Mark Welsh and Heather Williamson.
- Give thanks for the key role Global Connections plays in encouraging and equipping Church leaders; and for the opportunity that leaders from all over the UK and Ireland will have next week to consider the important theme 'The Whole Church Taking the Whole Gospel to the Whole World'.
- Pray for all involved in organising and running this event; and for God's guiding and anointing for those giving keynote addresses, leading Biblically focused reflections or seminar groups.
- Pray for safety for all travelling to the Conference and that it will be an encouraging time of learning, sharing and reflection.
Days 27 to 29 – INDONESIA
Raing McCullagh has been issued with a new UK visa through the British Embassy in Dublin. Her previous visa was due to expire at the end of this month.
- Give thanks that the process of obtaining Raing's UK Visa renewal went smoothly and it was issued without any difficulties or delays.
