Day 4 – SPAIN

Derek and Jane French are delighted that Lina, from Colombia, who has been involved with the work on a voluntary basis, began working full-time for GBU in the Basque Country on 1st June. This month Lena, along with Derek, will be doing a lot of planning for the next academic year.

In September, another two young people will also be joining the GBU team in the north of Spain (Jenna and Aimée) and several other people are also praying about joining the team

Derek and Jane are looking for a “local” – the Spanish word for premises, which could be used as a base for the new team and the work, where they would be able to hold team meetings, training, Bible Studies, events, etc.

Prayer Points –

  • For Lina as she makes the transition from her previous job, to a full time GBU staff worker and as she seeks to find a new rhythm with this new job with GBU.

  • For Derek and Lina as they plan the programme for next year, and also for Derek as he prepares training materials for new GBU workers.

  • That God will provide a "local" that would be ideal for the work.

  • For those considering joining the GBU team, as they seek God's will and guidance in this area.

Days 12 and 14 – KENYA

The two congregations in Galana continue to grow. One congregation meets in the new church beside the primary school, the other meets in a classroom some 12km away. It has grown so much that the classroom can no longer accommodate everyone. They are longing to build a new church to worship in and have been given some land to do so.

Prayer Points –

  • Give thanks for the continual growth of the two congregations in Galana. Pray that these two congregations will continue to establish God’s kingdom in the Galana area.

  • For the mission in Galana planned for 20th to 25th July. Remember all who are organising it, those taking part in door to door outreach and those preaching.

  • For protection on all involved in the lead up to the mission and that the seed sown will take root and grow.

  • Remember Laura-Jayne Roulston as she starts her final exams of secondary school (in Dublin) today, Wednesday 9th.

  • Guy, a missionary from the USA who works along with his wife near the Roulstons, and recently has been diagnosed with a benign tumour.  He has returned to the USA for surgery.  Please continue to remember him and his family during this time.

Day 20 – LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Gordon Campbell’s week of teaching in Riga, Latvia, was very worthwhile. Gordon preached in Riga Reformed Church and brought the greetings of PCI to the congregation. On behalf of the Baltic Reformed Theological Seminary (BRTS) he was also able to encourage the Youth Pastor in Riga Reformed Bible Church in his exegesis of Scripture and preaching. And principally, he had the privilege of relating to around twenty-five students, ministers and elders –roughly half in Riga and half in Vilnius (where participants listened via the internet) – as they engaged with the Gospel of John in stage one of a two-part course concluding in September 2010.

Prayer Points –

  • For BRTS as it offers opportunities for training and study to Latvian and Lithuanian believers.

  • For the ministers of Riga’s two Reformed congregations as they seek to teach and pastor the believers in their care.

  • For the spiritual encouragement and renewal of members of their congregations, especially families, as they look forward to summer camp in late June.

Give Thanks  –

  • For safe travel and for the wellbeing of Gordon and Aimée during their stay in Riga.

  • For the rich fellowship enjoyed with local believers.

  • For the steps being taken to form a Presbytery in Riga and to lay the foundations of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Latvia.

Days 21 and 22 – INDIA

Rt Rev Vinod Malaviya, Bishop of the Gujarat Diocese of the Church of North India (CNI), arrived safely in Belfast yesterday (8th) and is attending the General Assembly.

As this is likely to be the last occasion Bishop Malaviya will be in Ireland before his retirement in 2012, a special evening of 'Thanksgiving & Reflection' is being held in the McCracken Memorial Presbyterian Church on Sunday 13th June, to mark his visit and to reflect on his long association with PCI.

This event, which will commence at 7.00 pm, is open to all who may be interested.  The evening will be a time for worship and thanksgiving to God, along with personal reflections from the Bishop and three individuals who, from different perspectives, have come to know him well over the years and now count him among their close friends.

We would encourage as many people as possible to attend this Reception but would ask those who intend coming, to please contact us,sothat we know numbers for seating and catering purposes.

  • Pray for an encouraging visit that will help the development of PCI’s partnership with the CNI’s Gujarat Diocese.

  • Pray for a good attendance at the special reception being held in McCracken Memorial on Sunday evening, 13th June.

They are due to depart on Monday 14th June to return to Indonesia.

Prayer Points –

  • For an encouraging visit that will help the development of PCI’s partnership with GMIH.

  • For a safe and trouble-free journey home.

  • For Mervyn and Raing McCullagh as they accompany the delegation, help with translation, and as they continue to seek God’s guidance for their future.
