A year ago, a doctor in the District Hospital in Mugu, a remote area in the far west of Nepal, discharged a one-month-old baby boy who was severely anaemic and malnourished.
In letting the baby go, the doctor explained to the child’s father, Ram Singh Saud, and his wife, who live in the remote village of Salim (in Rowa VDC) and are both deaf and dumb, that the hospital could no longer treat their baby boy and that he would die within a few days.
This news came as a big blow to Ram Singh and his wife, completely shattering their hope of saving their only child. There remained one last hope for their boy’s recovery and that was to take him to the government zonal hospital in Nepalgunj.
But Ram Singh and his wife are poor farmers and did not have the money to go to Nepalgunj, so they ended up in the street begging for help.
A pastor from the local church noticed the mother crying for help for her dying son, who she was holding in her arms. He immediately took them to the church and began to care for both the child and his parents. He also asked UMN staff in Mugu to help support this family.
After three months of intensive care, support and prayer by members of this local church and UMN staff, the child miraculously regained his health. Today, he is in good health and growing up in his village!
Ever since he was healed, the young boy and his parents have continued to experience the love of Jesus in their lives. The people in their village community are very happy with the church and UMN for the love, care and support that they have shown to this poor family.
In this and other ways, God has been providing the Nepali Christian community in Mugu (and in other areas of Nepal) with opportunities to show His love and concern for the poor, enabling many in Nepal to hear about and experience the love of Jesus in their lives.
